The MLab now has a GitHub repository for the Optophone Kit (part of the Kits for Cultural History series). Like the Kit, the repository is a work in progress and will be updated as the project evolves.
At the moment, Version 1.1 of the repo has three separate Python scripts for three different functions: taking an image of text and making it machine-readable, generating tones for playback, and matching and playing the corresponding tone for each character. It also has instructions for using or modifying the script to make and/or play your own optophonic sounds.
